Stainless steel wire mesh and black silk cloth are the most commonly used metal materials for extruder filter screen or plastic extruder filter screen. Although the price of stainless steel wire mesh is relatively expensive, its biggest advantage is that it can avoid rusting and can be used in some PVC production lines or other occasions with high quality requirements. Nickel alloy filter screen is used to avoid corrosion by fluoropolymer or PVDC.
In general, the mesh size (or the number of wires per inch) used in extruders is 20-150 or more. 20 mesh filter is coarse, 40-60 mesh is fine, 80-150 mesh is fine.
The mesh of most filters is square woven with the same number of wires in each direction. The Dutch braiding method uses thick wire in the horizontal direction and is specified as even number, for example, 32 x 120 in (1 in = 25.4 mm). The filter screen made by Dutch weaving method can play a fine filtering role without setting parallel screens in the filtering device.
The aperture of the filter screen with the same mesh number is determined according to the diameter of the wire, and it is not necessary to be completely consistent. For example, for a 20 mesh filter made of wire with row spacing of 24In and diameter of 0.02in, the opening on each side is 0.01in; for the 20mesh filter made of wire with row spacing of 30in and diameter of 0.01in, the opening on each side is slightly larger, which is 0.04in
